Rubavu: A month –long campaign of activities by youth volunteers has been launched
The month dedicated to youth volunteer activities was officially launched at the provincial level in Rubavu District. The activities were launched by the Governor of the Western Province, Ntibitura Jean Bosco, who led the planting of 5,140 trees on Mount Rubavu as part of efforts to control soil erosion and promote environmental conservation.
Addressing youth volunteers and residents of Rubavu District, the Governor of the Western Province commended the young people who participated in the activity, noting that volunteerism is an important way of working together to address challenges affecting communities.
“It is a meaningful initiative because, beyond protecting the environment, it brings young people and older generations together and demonstrates that youth are a driving force for development.”
He explained that tree planting is one of the activities planned for the month, alongside initiatives to support vulnerable people, promote hygiene and sanitation, and implement other activities aimed at improving the well-being of communities.

He added that more than 400,000 people are expected to be reached through various awareness campaigns, including campaigns against illicit and substandard alcoholic beverages.
Governor Ntibitura called on young people to contribute to building drug-free families and communities rooted in Rwandan values, with citizens who are healthy, productive, and committed to building a better future for the country.
He also thanked the youth who participated in the tree-planting exercise and encouraged them to regularly visit the trees they planted to monitor their growth, noting that the trees will contribute to beautifying Rubavu City and improving the quality of the environment, as the clean air generated by trees will benefit residents across the city.
