EDUCATION STATISTICS 2013-2014 FOR THE WESTERN PROVINCE

A Healthy  Population is an engine for economic growth,  people who are   physically and mentally  fit  are able to work and earn high wages than  ill healthy individuals.

Western province is committed to promote access to   health services; medical insurance, clean water and nutrition.

the population covered under medical insurance  scheme  is 80.66%  of  the general population

                                2. FIGHT AGAINST MALNUTRITION

Strategies in place

ü  Kitchen gardens per household ( akarima k’igikoni)

ü  Support  poor  families to acquire livestock

ü  Cooking  demonstration  schools in villages

ü  Give  milk to malnourished  children

ü  Mothers evening “Akagoroba  k’ababyeyi” (attend  courses  related  to nutritive food preparation)

ü    parents sensitization on   infants  primary  health  care services 

ü     Sensitize  couples on   use of  family planning

                                 

    1EDUCATION

With introduction of 9YBE (Nine year basic Education) lunched in 2009 and 12YBE (Twelve year basic Education) in 2010, great improvement has been registered  in both primary and secondary  schools;

ü  2,203 classrooms have been constructed

ü  96 teachers hostels are under construction

ü  Enrolment in Primary school increased from 509,074  to 651,118 equally number of  teachers increased from 9,390 to 10,442

ü  Enrolment in Secondary School increased from 76,688  to    120,527   similarly  teachers from 2,759 to 4,961
