Karongi Kivu Watt project to generate power by January 2013

On Monday 26th March 2012, The Rt. Hon. Prime Minister, Dr. Pierre Damien Habumuremyi paid visit to Karongi Kivu Watt Project in a bit to assess the progress of the project.
Accompanied by the Minister of State in charge of energy, Mrs Isumbingabo Emma, the Minister of cabinet Affairs, Protais Musoni, the Governor of the Western Province, Celestin Kabahizi as well as Karongi District Mayor, Bernard Kayumba; the Premier colled concened members to work hard and meet the deadlines so as to allow citizens get access to electricity.


The Project will generate 25MW in the beginning and plan to extend up to 100MW. Kivu Watt project run by Contour Global(a NewYork based power supply company)is an integrated methane gas extraction and production facility.

Kivu Watt project manager said that the badge and all technical installation are expected to be finished by August 2012 and methane gas extraction works to start by January 2013.
